Sharon Green honored as 2012 Medical Activist of the Year

On Thursday June 7 we had the honor of celebrating our very own Sharon Green, Executive Director of the Institute for Women’s Health Research, at Below the Belt: Fighting for Women’s Pelvic Health, a fundraising event hosted by the Women’s Health Foundation dedicated to promoting the pelvic health of women and girls through education, wellness programs, and research. Sharon was named the 2012 Medical Activist of the Year, an award given each year to a healthcare professional “who has broken down barriers, changed medical practice, added to science or otherwise shown outstanding dedication and innovation in women’s health” (from WHF).
Sharon is truly a proactive force in the field of women’s health, having previously served as the the first executive director of the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization and as the first deputy director of the Office of Women’s Health at the Illinois Department of Public Health. She is also one of the co-founders of the National Breast Cancer Coalition in DC. We are so proud of her tremendous work and are excited to see the ways in which the field of women’s health will continue to improve and evolve because of her extensive knowledge and undeniable talents.
